Featherweight

Lucy Cash & Karen Christopher

Featherweight is a project which grew out of a residency of open studio days at the University of Roehampton, looking at materials involving dependency and empathy, including the carrying of one on the back of another, performed for pleasure or rescue. Lucy and Karen have developed a performance lecture reflecting the thematic concerns of their residency.

Lucy Cash is an interdisciplinary artist whose work propels the familiar into the poetic and the improbable. It often involves social exchange and unconventional collaborations and has taken place in galleries, museums, libraries, housing estates, on water and in the air. Her work moves out from the body as a site of lived experience and agency. www.lucycash.com

Featherweight forms part of The Difference Between Home and Poem: a duet series. Each project in the series is jointly made, directed and performed by Karen Christopher and another artist.

Aspects of the residency connected with this project appear in two blog entries: here and here.
